If we merge this now, without a nightlies, it will break software builds.
I prefer we do this by the end of the day or early in the evening.
or we merge it and run nightlies by hand after it.
OK.
@bob, @beat: this MR will disrupt all existing builds based on bdt. Problems will only pass after successful bob/beat nightly builds.
I'll merge this so it's gets tested tonight.
